Institute of Rural Credit and entrepreneurship development (IRCED) is the organization had started its social development activities through the food grain banks in the areas where the food scarcity seem to be the major problem.
IRCED is an outcome of one of the successful projects implemented in Karjat Tribal Block of Raigad District. After the successful implementation of the Grain Bank project in the tribal area of the Raigad district of the Maharashtra State that ensured 3000 tribal families get rid of the moneylender’s debt trap. This project idea has been accepted by Tribal Dept., Govt. of Maharashtra after recognizing its innovative approach in redeeming the tribal from Sahukar’s (moneylenders) debt trap and established a sustainable “social capital”.
IRCED has been started in 1994, by the same team who believe in innovative and efficient approaches to solve the development problems of the poor and the depressed population. IRCED is nonprofit organization registered under The Society Registration Act 1860 and Bombay Public Trust 1950. Since then organization is doing remarkable developmental work in areas of agriculture, rural health, micro credit, crafts etc. On the request of the people from Atpadi taluka, IRCED started its development work in the drought prone villages of Atpadi from 1996.
The organization is based in Sangli district of Maharasthra and presently working in the areas of Satara, Sangli, Solapur and Kolhapur districts of Maharashtra state and Belgaum district of Karnataka state.
